Is your flask not keeping drinks hot or cold for the full hours?
We want you to have the best experience with your flask. A few things can affect its thermal performance, so if it's not staying hot or cold as long as you'd like, consider these factors:
Initial Temperature: The starting temperature of your drink makes a big difference.
How Full It Is: A full flask will hold its temperature better than one that's only partially full.
External Conditions: Extreme heat or cold outside can affect how well the flask insulates.
Opening the Lid: Opening the lid frequently lets heat or cold air escape.
Heating Method: The way you heat your drink can impact its starting temperature.
The performance times we share are based on controlled tests, which is standard practice in the industry. They're a great benchmark, but your personal experience may vary depending on how you use your flask.
How can I to test my flask for faults?
If you're concerned your flask isn't working as it should, there are a few simple tests you can do at home to check for common faults.
1. The Hot Water Test
This is the most effective way to check your flask's insulation.
- Carefully fill your flask with boiling water. (most kettles do not boil water to 100c so boil yours for longer)
- Secure the lid tightly and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes, feel the outside of the flask. The outer walls should remain cool to the touch. If the outside of the flask feels hot, it's a sign that the vacuum seal has been compromised and heat is escaping.
2. The Leak Test
This test ensures the lid and seal are working correctly.
- Fill the flask with water and screw the lid on tightly.
- Turn the flask upside down and give it a gentle shake.
- If you see any drips or leaks, the seal may be faulty or the lid may be damaged.
3. The Visual Check
A quick inspection can reveal potential issues.
- Check the lid and the flask's opening for any visible cracks, chips, or damage.
- Look at the rubber gasket or seal inside the lid. It should be intact and free of any tears or signs of wear. A damaged gasket can prevent a proper seal.
4. The Heat Check
Here is a simple way to test your flask's heat retention:
- Fill your flask with boiling water.
- Secure the lid tightly and let the flask sit undisturbed for 3 hours. Do not open it during this time.
- After 3 hours, carefully open the flask and test the water. If the water is still very hot to the touch, your flask is performing as it should. This indicates the vacuum insulation is working correctly to retain heat.
Should we find that a flask is performing as it should after a warranty claim, we won't be able to provide a replacement. What this means is that on a heat test, the flask should retain a temperature of 60°C or above after 12 hours.
How to wash my flask?
To keep your flask in great condition and ensure a fresh taste every time, here are the best ways to wash it:
Daily Cleaning (Recommended After Each Use)
- Hand Wash Only: We recommend hand washing your flask with warm water and a little bit of dish soap.
- Use a Soft Brush: A bottle brush is perfect for reaching the bottom and sides of the flask to remove any residue. Don't forget to scrub the lid and its seal thoroughly, as these areas can collect germs.
- Rinse and Dry: Rinse all parts well with clean, warm water. It's important to let the flask and lid air dry completely before reassembling and storing. Leaving the flask uncapped helps prevent any smells from developing.
Deep Cleaning (Once a Week or as Needed)
For a deeper clean, especially if you've had coffee or other strongly flavored drinks in your flask, you can use common household items:
- Baking Soda: Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with warm water inside the flask. Let it sit for a few hours (or even overnight for stubborn stains), then rinse thoroughly.
- White Vinegar: Pour about a half a cup of white vinegar into the flask, top it off with warm water, and let it sit for about 20 minutes before rinsing. This is great for disinfecting and removing odors.
Things to Avoid
- Dishwashers: We do not recommend putting your flask in the dishwasher. The high heat can damage the exterior and compromise the vacuum seal, affecting its thermal performance.
- Abrasive Cleaners: Avoid using bleach, chlorine, or abrasive scrubbers, as these can damage the stainless steel and the finish of your flask.
Built Tough, But Not Invincible
While our Purepop flasks are designed for durability, they're not indestructible. They're built with high-quality materials to withstand daily life, but a little care goes a long way in keeping them in perfect condition.
Just like most things in your home, they are susceptible to damage from drops, impacts, and extreme temperatures. A strong fall onto a hard surface can dent the flask and, in rare cases, compromise the vacuum seal.
Treat your flask with a little love, and it will continue to keep your drinks just right for years to come.
